The exhibition A Thousand Words and Counting at Spalding House is actually made up of five smaller exhibitions. One of them is Letters to Queen Lili‘iuokalani. In the gallery is a case of original letters written by the queen. On the opposite wall is a visual poem by poet No‘u Revilla, created from phrases taken from the queen’s letters. Facing the poem is a desk at which guests can sit and contemplate the letters and poem, and write their own letter to Queen Lili‘uokalani. The letters are posted on a wall. And they reveal just how potent the deposed monarch’s words remain. Above is just one of them. Thank you Kaleo!
