Yesterday was the last day to submit work for Artists of Hawai‘i 2013. Jay Jensen, curator of contemporary art, and Inger Tully, Artists of Hawai‘i coordinator, were pleased to receive submissions from 341 artists. They are starting to comb through the images to select 8 to 12 artists who will then have almost a year to develop a body of work to go on view Sept. 19 here at the museum. Here are details on the new format of the exhibition.
Once the artists are chosen, it will be so exciting to see how their work develops, from their original submission, into the oeuvre that will be created for the exhibition, with input and guidance from our curators. The process can be as intriguing as the end result.
In the meantime, our graphic designer Jared Stone is working on the logo and visual identity for the exhibition. Many different departments, from curatorial to finance, contribute to making Artists of Hawai‘i happen.
