Just out from Globe Pequot Press is A Love for the Beautiful: Discovering America’s Hidden Art Museums. And guess what—the Honolulu Museum of Art is in it. Author Susan Jaques visited the museum last year and interviewed director Stephan Jost and Asian Art curator Shawn Eichman to get the inside scoop. She talks about the Beretania Street location and Spalding House, saying, “The newly combined collection offers viewers a chance to look at art in fresh, innovative ways. At both venues visitors can experience traditional Asian art alongside dynamic contemporary works.”
We’re in good company—other museums in the book include the Rubin Museum of Art (which presented our exhibition The Dragon’s Gift: The Sacred Art of Bhutan) in New York City, the Clyfford Still Museum in Denver, and the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore.
The book is available in the Honolulu Museum of Art Shop and through our online shop, $19.95. Call 532-8703 for more information.
