‘The Dragon’s Gift: The Sacred Arts of Bhutan” had a low-key opening on Feb. 20 at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. Dignitaries from Bhutan led the opening ceremony. Also there was His Royal Highness Prince Dasho Jigme DorjiWangchuck, who is fifth in line to the throne of Bhutan and attends Menlo College. Many attendees, such as Academy Director Stephen Little’s wife Heloisa Oliviera, wore traditional gho and kira. The landmark exhibition was organized by the Honolulu Academy of Arts. The project was five years in the making and is the result of a close collaboration with the government of Bhutan. Curator of the exhibition is Therese Tse Bartholomew, the former curator of the Asian Art Museum.
