Since October 2008, the Academy has been reaching out to its online audience via social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, YouTube and Flickr. The results have been phenomenal! Who knew that we had fans all the way in Thailand and Australia?
Not only have we gotten to know the faces of other web 2.0ers interested in what we do, social networking has allowed for a more immediate outlet of information regarding exhibition openings, Doris Duke Theatre films and events, Academy Shop sales, Pavilion Cafe deals and everything else going on in these galleries and halls.
Check us out at the following links and become a friend, follower, fan, contact; whatever it is, we’d love to see you.

Hullo from Australia.
I don’t use facebook, twitter etc., however I’d like to put my comment here.
I visited Hawaii a few years ago to watch my son compete in the Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon. After the race ee visited the Academy and LOVED IT. Last year my husband I did a hectic 9 week tour of the world Japan,St.Petersberg(Hermitage), Estonia, Finland, Ashmolean in UK, Ireland, NY (MOMA, Met, Frick, Guggenheim) LA: both Getty museums.
The icing on the cake, was the stopover finale in Hawaii.
I am a retired secondary school art teacher, who also worked in Public Programmes(education) at the AGNSW. I’ve seen quite a few galleries in my time (are there ever enough?) and I believe the Honolulu Academy of Art is one of the best. Not the biggest, not the best collection, however the AMBIENCE, ARRANGEMENT and BALANCE (of artworks, collections) is brilliant. It has a human scale, intimacy and presence that is JUST WONDERFUL.
MY FAVOURITE ART GALLERY IN THE WORLD. I’ll come back anytime!! No surprise that Michener believed this was THE PLACE for his collection.
Congratulations to all who have made it so. (I tell everyone that if they’re in Hawaii they MUST put a visit to the Gallery as their top priority.)
I really like your website; it keeps me informed.
I’d love to see some virtual tours of the Gallery. (and I wish I could purchase fabric from the Gallery shop online. It, also is a fabulous place).
A WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL GALLERY.
best wishes, Hedy (Sydney. Australia)
Thank you so much for your very generous comment. You put us in heady company and we really appreciate it.
We are in the midst of putting the permanent collection online and later this year you will be able to take some virtual tours of the museum. Any particular galleries you’d like to see? We’ll try to make them priorities.
Again, thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts on the Academy.
