Like most stars of the art world, van Gogh touched down at Zurich airport unannounced for security reasons. It was a warm spring afternoon. It took a while to clear customs and load the heavy crate into the special climate-controlled truck for the one-hour ride to Basel. “Switzerland is a small country,” our friendly driver proudly told us as
we set off on the autobahn.

Being from Honolulu and now living in Basel, it was with surprise that I saw Pauline handing out leis on Swiss television. I’ll surely visit the van Gogh exhibit now.
