Aaron Padilla, Assistant Curator of Education at the Academy, has gotten news that his award-winning entry at the Hawaii Craftsmen exhibition (held at ARTS at Marks Garage last month) has been bought by the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and is officially accepted into the foundation’s permanent collection. The work is “Over and Under,” a masterpiece if intricate woodwork.

Michael Sweitzer is an instructor with the Academy’s Art to Go program, leading art workshops for kids at places like Palama Settlement. His solo show “Small Doses Daily,” curated by Sanit Khewhok, opened at the HPU Art Gallery on Sunday. He mixes a nostalgia trip with contemporary street art techniques, painting images from family photos and giving them spray paint embellishments. Try to figure out how he makes all those dots! (It’s what every single person asked him at the opening.)
