Several years years ago, Sogetsu Ikebana instructor Carole Sakata and her students created ikebana installations at Spalding House. Since then education curator Aaron Padilla has suggested that she do a repeat performance. Well, Carole, who teaches at the Honolulu Museum of Art School as well as independent classes, took him up on his offer.
Last Friday she and her students gathered for an opening reception of Ikebana: Expressing with Heart. It’s an indoor-outdoor exhibition of spectacular large-scale installations on the lawn and flower arrangements in the studio classroom.
The displays are on view through Thursday, Jan. 22. Don’t miss them!
Sheryl Kramer, the facilities director at Spalding House, shared her photos of the installation process—everyone worked hard, including our own staff Aaron Padilla and Bradley Capello!
