To help educators get the most out of our upcoming exhibition Less = More, the museum is holding a teacher workshop on Feb.14, Valentine’s Day! (Because we know you love what you do!). Get a preview of Less = More, on view February 4 to May 31, at the Honolulu Museum of Art Spalding House in Makiki Heights.
The process and presentation of art is filled with mathematical concepts. Less = More makes tangible the principles of addition, subtraction, division and multiplication and illustrates how they can be used to transform the simple into the complex.
The workshop includes a hands-on “Make Art” activity that will be offered as a part of the Math Through Art guided school tour, as well as a walkthrough of the art, such as origami flower sculptures by Michael Lafosse; Kumi Yamashita’s portrait of her niece made with a single thread more than a half-mile long and thousands of brads; and Kenneth Bushnell’s minimalist paintings that explore Euclidian geometry. The session will conclude with a boxed lunch on the lawn and an opportunity to discuss the exhibition with fellow teachers.
Space is limited, so please sign up for this workshop today.
Parking and a light lunch will be provided.
