Jacqueline Rush Lee helps bring art to O‘ahu children—she was an instructor with our Art to Go after-school outreach program and is one of our newest Art Ambassadors. She somehow finds the time to also be one of the island’s most prolific artists. Right now you can see her work coast to coast in prestigious exhibitions. She is included in the show “The Book Borrowers: Contemporary Artists Transforming the Book,” on view at the Bellevue Arts Museum outside Seattle through June 14, and her book sculptures are at the Center for Book Arts in New York City through March 28 as part of its Featured Artist Projects. Closer to home, Rush Lee’s work is also in the 10th Annual Shoebox Sculpture Exhibition at the University of Hawai‘i Art Gallery. The Academy is lucky to have such a prominent artist on board as an arts educator.
Jacqueline is such a talented artist. I’m currently working on (very de-l-a-y-e-d!) a profile about her for the Advertiser.
But I’m not sure the small piece in the Shoebox Sculpture show does her justice. It’s hard to fully grasp what she’s doing with such a small sample. I liked her larger grouping in last year’s Hawaii Craftsmen show at Linekona much more.
