Congratulations to Ailsa Horky of Kaneohe and Tyler Dos Santos-Tam of Honolulu for winning our Instagram and Twitter contests at #ARTafterDARK on Friday, Jan. 25.

We celebrated the start of our 10th year of ARTafterDARK with a social media theme. There were two contests attendees could participate in, along with chances to win instant prizes throughout the evening.

Horky, the winner of the Instagram ?Art Contest, completed three activities in the Antiquity + The Body, Portraiture and Modernism galleries. Entrants were asked to pose in the Antiquity + The Body gallery and draw a portrait in the Portraiture gallery. In the Modernism gallery, they were asked to take a photo of a Georgia O’Keeffe painting and answer the question: If O’Keeffe was here, what would you like her to paint now?

Her response was “I would want her to paint the Na Pali Coast. Her painting style is so sumptuous and the way she mixes colors would capture the beauty of the land like no other.”

A panel of judges, which included about 10 museum staffers including Theresa Papanikolas, curator of European and American art, and Aaron Padilla, curator of education, chose Horky as the winner.

She will receive an ARTafterDARK VIP Experience Prize Package, which includes VIP admission for four people to any 2013 event, two bottles of Champagne, dinner for her party, a reserved table and parking, plus a private guided gallery tour.

For the Twitter Caption Contest, entrants had to come up with an answer to “What’s Barker about to say?” referring Hank Murta Adams’ sculpture, “Barker,” in our Serious Fun exhibition. Dos Santos-Tam won with his caption “Really!?!? They put me across from *THAT*???” The Adams sculpture is positioned directly across from John Buck’s “Effigy.” We’ll let the photo below speak for itself.

Dos Santos-Tam will receive a $50 gift certificate to The Grove in Kailua.

Mahalo to everyone who participated in the contests! Look for more ways to get involved with social media at future ARTafterDARK events.
