The ‘Ôiwi Film Festival, now running at the Doris Duke Theatre through May 26, got off to a lively start with an opening reception. The leis flowed thick. Curated by Film Curator Gina Caruso, working with filmmaker Ann Marie Kirk, and sponsored by Prince David Kahalepouli Kawananakoa, Watters and Christy Martin, Michael and Linda Horikawa and the Dolores Furtado Martin Foundation, the festival is a landmark event for the Academy. We hope you come to see these films made by Hawaiians and addressing important issues. Enjoy images from the opening festivities by Shuzo Uemoto.
